Non-University Review

Policy and Fee Schedule

This policy is addressed to all non-PSU entities who may require the services of the Portland State University (PSU) Human Subjects Research Review Committee (HSRRC). Considering that there are several entities in the area that do not have their own Institutional Review Board (IRB), and may yet be required to have their research projects involving human participants reviewed by an established IRB, the HSRRC made a decision, several years ago to offer the service of reviewing proposals for non-university projects.

Since the fall of 1998, the HSRRC has deemed it necessary to assess a fee for their services due to the increased number of off-campus proposals submitted and the decreased funding to cover the services. The fee schedule is as follows:

• $750.00 for initial review of a protocol, including submission of revisions and changes for the year following initial approval.
• $250.00 for continuing review of the same protocol, including submission of revisions and changes for the year following renewal of approval.

Please note that payment is required at the time of the submission of an application to the HSRRC, and checks should be written to Portland State University.
