Research Administration at Portland State

Portland State University offers a comprehensive research program that contributes to the educational mission of the University, advances knowledge in the sciences and social sciences and contributes to the economic and social development of the city, state and nation. Research at Portland State is under the direction of the Vice Provost for Research and Sponsored Projects, Dr. William Feyerherm. Research activities are supported by three entities: The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, Research Accounting, and the grants specialists and other support staff employed by academic units and research centers. These three entities work together to promote and facilitate the acquisition of research funding, to manage ongoing research projects and to assist with the dissemination and commercialization of innovations, inventions and research findings.

Research Administrative Professionals Group

Successful research administration at PSU necessitates collaboration among a wide range of personnel. The Research Administrative Professionals (RAPs) group was recently formed at Portland State University in order to share information and best practices across campus. RAPs is made up of unclassified and classified employees, both from the central administration and from academic units, who provide financial and administrative support to grants and contracts. The purpose of the group is to provide training and share knowledge with others who support externally funded projects.

The group meets monthly during the academic year (see schedule) and occasionally during the summer. To sign up for the RAPs listserv go to https://www.lists.pdx.edu/lists/listinfo/rap and fill out the form.

To request funding assistance for a RAP Training and Development opportunity, please submit a completed proposal form to ORSP (Unitus Building, 6th Floor).
